Urgent need, Trauma Clinic
Many of the people we come across suffering from trauma need more help than we can give them in their communities. Also, more and more people are coming to our site at Kpong Airfield asking for help.
In many cases, a simple trauma clinic, dealing with basic wounds and dressings, providing simple short term clinic beds that allow us to keep trauma victims under watch and in a cleaner environment, reducing the risk of infection and secondary complications, would reduce suffering and increase understanding. Having those who suffer in our own clinic and taking the opportunity to enhance their understanding - not simply treat them - would in many cases accelerate the exit from poverty in their own communities.
A simple clinic building will cost us between $30 000 and $60 000 to build on our current site, and we have the land set aside for it. As funds earmarked for this clinic come in we will start the foundations and build towards entry to service of this much needed facility. (note: we are already sending two of the MoM volunteers on a special course, in July 2011, on burns and infection control in preparation for this development - because we believe it will happen sooner rather than later!)
